Bringing you beautiful raw milk cheese from Switzerland to your door

The Emme Valley – origin of the Emmental cheese in Switzerland

** October – it’s still cheese weather!
————————————————————
Hi Cheese Friend

Glancing outside, it looks more like the October we know from Switzerland: off and on rain and relatively cold temperatures. Well, that’s Melbourne in spring for you. But then they say there are only two types of weather: nice weather and cheese weather. So, it’s actually perfect!

** Taste of Melbourne is back!
————————————————————
In less than 3 weeks the annual Taste of Melbourne festival returns to Albert Park. This year we are once again the official cheese supplier for the Laurent Perrier VIP area and, in addition to last year, we are offering each VIP ticket holder a free artisan cheese box containing two of our finest Sélection Beeler, alpine cheeses.

You can benefit too because as a partner of the Taste of Melbourne festival we can offer you a ticket special: Book your tickets through www.ticketek.com.au/tasteofmelbourne and enter PARTNER in the promotional code box to get 2 tickets for $40 (safe $10). You may then consider using the extra money to upgrade to the VIP ticket on the day in order to enjoy our wonderful Rolf Beeler cheese box.

Plus, because we love our newsletter subscribers, we give away 2 tickets valid for either the Thursday 14^th November, 5.30 to 9.30pm, Friday, 15^th November, 12 to 4pm or the 5.30pm to 10pm session. The first person to respond to this email address with subject line “Taste Festival” (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Taste%20Festival) will get the tickets.

Taste of Melbourne runs from 14^th to 17^th November in the stunning surrounds of Albert Park. See you there!

** What red cow?

Some of you might have spotted our lovely, wooden red cow at our events. Many people asked us whether they can buy one of these hand-crafted Swiss beauties, so we decided to ship some over.
You can now get them directly from our online shop (http://store.landingwww.alpineexpress.com.au/products/swiss-red-cow) . Also some of our retailers (e.g. Delicatess in the Prahran market or Walmas in Bayswater) stock a few. The red cow retails for $19.95.

** Our Toggenburger cheese maker
————————————————————
Last but certainly not least, we would like to introduce you to another one of our cheese makers from Switzerland: Stephan

Name: Stephan
Region: Toggenburg (northeast Switzerland)
Cheese produced: Toggenburger, Hagebuttenkäse

Stephan, pictured above cutting the curd, and his wife Bettina run a small cheese production in the picturesque Toggenburg. He gets his milk delivered twice a day from the surrounding farmers. Some deliver it by tractor, others in the back of their car. One thing is sure, the wonderful raw milk is as fresh as it gets and is of course the key ingredient for Stephan’s creations.

Stephan produces the Hagebuttenkäse and the Toggenburger for our Sélection Beeler range. The former, a newer cheese, we introduced in our 1st August newsletter (http://eepurl.com/C5mdL) . To recap, Hagebutte is German for rose hip, the fruit of the rose plant. The dried and shredded rose hip is added to the milk during production and is then rubbed on the outside before it is matured for 4 months. Rolf Beeler then adds a white mould to the outside, making the rind dry and giving it a rustic look.

The Hagebuttenkäse is currently available on the dessert menu at the newly opened No. 8 by John Lawson at the Crown Casino at the cheese room at Richmond Hill Café & Larder.

So, enjoy the rest of the cheese weather, think of Stephan and his artisan cheese production high up in the Toggenburg when you taste his cheese and don’t forget to put the Taste of Melbourne festival into your dairy.

Happy cheese munching.
