Description

This traditional Swiss skimmed milk cheese contains a herbal mix of blue fenugreek (trigonella melilotus-caerulea) which give it its distinctive green colour. It has been produced since 1463 making it the oldest branded product in Switzerland. The Schabziger, also known as Sap Sago is a unique natural product perfect for seasoning dishes similar to Sbrinz or other grated cheese but with the extra herbal kick.

For generations the GLARNER SCHABZIGER has been experiencing sympathy and admiration. And not only in the traditional, but also in the modern kitchen. This is because the oldest branded product in Switzerland gives well-known and newly created dishes their special sophistication. Whether grated, brushed, seasoning or dip – the extremely low-fat and very wholesome natural product always ensures happy faces.

For seasoning pasta, rice, potatoes, fondue, raclette, spätzli, vegetables, sauces, etc.

Made from pasteurized, skimmed milk from cows. 100% natural from Glarner Alp Schabziger in hard quality. For longer durability. Can be stored at room temperature.

Weight per block: 90g

Grated. On hot buttered rye bread (toasted) with caraway seed. On a sunday morning… Is a earthly delight.

  2. Paul Skye (verified owner)

First encountered this in New Orleans in 1968. I was blown away then, at the age of 24. Now, at 76, after waiting for the technology to finally be able to find it again (thanks to Google when I entered hard green cheese in the search box) this delectable experience can be relived. It made a seriously intense impression in 1968, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name.

Hi Paul, that’s such a great story – thank you for sharing it! Please update us how your re-tasting experience went after you receive it!

  3. Peter (verified owner)

I grew up with this cheese in Curacao and Holland and just love it grated on the freshest bread with good butter. It’s hard to get now and I am so grateful that you stock it. It’s not only a delight to eat but renews memories of my early years enjoying it with my father.

Thank you Peter – happy we are able to bring back memories for you through our Swiss cheese!
