Press Release: Bringing the decadent Swiss Alps raclette experience to Australians

Raclette machine for round or square raclette wheels

The Red Cow now importing a range of professional and semi-professional raclette machines

Brisbane, Australia, 24 May 2019 – The Red Cow, importer of artisan Swiss cheeses to Australia, has started selling a range of professional and semi-professional raclette grills in response to consumer demand.

“With Australia’s largest selection of Swiss cheese, we’re the expert in everything Swiss cheese. More and more customers were coming to us wanting to extend their cheese experience, enjoying the flavour profiles available in quality, imported Swiss cheeses made with raw milk. Many customers wanted to increase the authenticity of their experience and we were importing raclette grills on demand, but with strong and growing sales, we now stock a comprehensive range of five raclette grills,” says Tom Merkli, managing director, The Red Cow.

Raclette grills are available that are suitable for home use or in the food industry, such as food trucks, restaurants or catering businesses. The range includes both electric and gas raclette grills, with sizes varying from suitability for single quarter wheels through to two half wheels. Electric grills are ideal for indoor use, while gas grills are a great option for outdoor use or for fast service requirements. All available grills come from Switzerland’s most highly regarded manufacturer of raclette equipment, Traitements Thermiques SA (TTM) and are – naturally – made in Switzerland. This warranties a quality that is second to none. With this partnership, The Red Cow is now the exclusive distributor of TTM equipment in Australia.

“Whether you’re looking for a fun showstopper for a mid-winter party at home, or a point of difference for your restaurant, we’ve got a selection of grills to suit all needs. And as the experts in Swiss cheese, we can make sure to partner your raclette grill with the best hand-selected range of artisan cheeses to make your raclette experience truly exceptional,” says Merkli.

Prices range from $269, with accessories and spare parts also available. Accompanying cheese can be supplied in block, wheel, half wheel, sliced, or wrapped in cheese paper. Like all The Red Cow cheeses, our raclette has been hand selected and is shipped via Australia Post Express in environmentally friendly insulated cardboard boxes with food grade ice gel packs.

What You Can Expect From the Red Cow and the Raclette Machine in Australia

The raclette brings the whole family together to enjoy the warm texture of artisan Swiss cheese. This cheese grill will bring life to your party.

  • Variety of Swiss cheese. At the Red Cow, we are privileged to provide some of the widest ranges of cheese imported from Switzerland to hug the palate. Because we work closely with Swiss cheesemakers, you can be rest assured knowing that the quality of cheese is the very best on the market for your raclette in Melbourne.
  • Raclette in Sydney is the new trend. Without a doubt, you have seen raclette and fondue make the journey over land and sea into Australia, creating a storm of fuss and with good reason. Once we at Red Cow realised that the average Australian has a real hunger for decent cheese, we knew that we need to make it our primary goal to supply the best cheese to our customers. Let the cheese make its way to you, and experience it like you have never done before with the help of a raclette from The Red Cow.
  • With our raclette grill in Australia, we are happy to provide you with a top of the range cheese selection that you can find in our shop. Prepare to be mesmerised by a selection of 36 kinds of cheese, five cheese boxes, and four fondue sets along with raclette machines and accessories, including Swiss pear reduction and wooden Swiss cow toys for the little ones to take home.

What You Should Know About a Raclette in Australia

One tends to think these beautiful cheesy experiences are limited to European countries. Let me assure you that this is no longer the case. Across Australia, the exquisite flavours of raclette are being savoured, bringing the swiss feeling directly into your home.

  • A Swiss raclette is exactly that. Swiss. A raclette is a device indigenous to Switzerland that dates as far back as the 12th century. Originally prepared over a fire and called “roasted cheese”, this is a more laborious process today, and we have incorporated technology into the process. An electric raclette cheese grill is the preferred choice today as it heats up faster. It has gained significant popularity in western countries over the last couple of decades, giving the gooey cheese of a raclette grill the comeback it deserves.
  • At the Red Cow, we offer various types of raclette machines and accessories. One for every occasion. The Ambiance, which is ideal for half a wheel of cheese. If you are a bigger party, this one should do the trick. The Party Raclette Grill for a quarter wheel of cheese is great for just two people, while the Super Raclette Machine can hold an entire wheel of cheese in two halves. This wheel makes sure no one misses a single serving of melting hot cheese. The more budget-friendly eight-person Classic Raclette Party Grill is excellent for small groups of people and is very easy to clean and pack away at the end of the night.
  • We offer two gas raclette machines as well. They are the Brio Plus which holds a whole wheel of cheese in two halves, and the Easy Gas Machine holds a half-wheel of cheese. These raclette machines are particularly practical for outdoor parties and events where electricity sockets aren’t easily reachable. There is no excuse to miss any chance at bringing out the raclette grill and owning the night, keeping everyone entertained.

Your party will surely be a hit among friends as any new experience out of the norm or away from the ordinary dinner party, will leave a pleasant, memorable memory that they will be sure to brag about to their friends and family.

How to Find the Cheese Shops of Your Dreams

Gastronomes know how difficult it may be to find good quality dairy products out there. Your local mass-produced cheese products from your corner shop just don’t taste the same as imported cheese made with dedication, passion and love. So, it’s best to do some research before deciding to visit just any cheese shop.

Here is why it’s important to know more about your chosen cheese shops beforehand:

About The Red Cow

Tom Merkli from The Red Cow

The Red Cow is Australia’s specialist artisan Swiss cheese importer bringing exclusive brands such as the Sélection Rolf Beeler range of artisan Swiss cheese as well as other high quality, artisan Swiss cheese to Australia.

Tom founded The Red Cow in late 2011 and the first commercial shipment arrived in April 2012 marking the start of selling The Red Cow’s artisan Swiss cheese to the Australian market.

Tom – mountain climber, high seas sailor, Swiss native – believes, like most people from Switzerland, that cheese is much more than just food. Growing up, his mother had a sweet spot for cheese, making sure the family never ran out. In his teens, Tom’s father introduced him to the family’s cheese supplier, Maître Fromager & affineur Rolf Beeler. Rolf speaks of cheese like a grand romance, and this infectious fancy was not lost on Tom, whose love for cheese continued to grow over the years.

When Tom moved to Australia in 2010 there were only a handful of artisan European cheeses available in Australia, most of them originating from France and Italy, not Switzerland. And thus precipitated Tom’s light bulb moment to give Australian’s the opportunity to savour the uniqueness of genuine artisan raw milk Swiss cheese.

Rolf Beeler
Rolf Beeler

Rolf Beeler is referred to as ‘The Pope of Cheese’ in Switzerland and has over 30 years of experience choosing, aging and purveying artisan Swiss cheese. Rolf monitors the cheese production from start to finish, beginning with the health of the cows and the grass they consume and ending with the time spent maturing each cheese. Most of the cheeses in the Selection Rolf Beeler collection are made from raw milk.
